Wanted: statuesque models

In a casting call for exhibitionists, a British sculptor is seeking human statues to pose high atop a plinth in London's Trafalgar Square. According to the plan, selected applicants will spend 1 hour each on display in the busy square. The human sculpture will be webcast during its run from July 6 through October 14. Grandmother immortalized

Britain's grandmother, the late Queen Mother, is remembered in a new statue erected in The Mall in London. Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, died in 2002 at the grand age of 101. Seen by many as a hero of the homefront during World War II, the Queen Mother was a constant Royal presence during much of the 20th Century.

Rail strike on track?

Protesting planned job cuts, unions for these London-area rail lines may plan strikes in the near future:

East Anglia line
South West Trains
First Capital Connect
London Overground

Voting on possible strikes ends March 23, so no job action is planned before then.

THE Monument is open

In 1666, fire destroyed much of medieval London. In the wake of the inferno, Sir Christopher Wren (and others) began construction of a new London, but included a simple monument to commemorate the Great Fire. After an 18-month renovation,The Monument. is once again open to visitors who are willing to climb its 311 stairs to get a terrific view of the city.

Half term means....

For overseas visitors, half term breaks at British schools can mean increased turnout at some attractions in London. Museums and other venues run special programs for students on break, which is a bonus in some regards, but which also lead to crowded conditions at popular spots. Most schools are on half term break during the week of February 16-20.

Winter wonderland?

It's not what most visitors would expect in London--a significant snowfall virtually shut down the city, Heathrow airport, many roads, schools, offices, tourist attractions...

A chance of snow is forecast for Tuesday, to be replaced by more normal weather (chance of rain) later in the week.
